plane s/n 42-31517 was piloted on this mission to augsburg by lt james r. chinn. his plane was hit by flack over france and he had to leave the formation. he salvoed his bombs but was still not able to rejoin the formation and was attacked and shot down by fighter aircraft over mont st martin, france. seven of his crew were killed, one evaded and two were captured and became pow's.
