We would like to thank the Imperial War Museum in Duxford, UK for letting us use these beautiful photos from the Roger Freeman collection. The Imperial War Museum acquired the collection in 2012 and consists of approximately 15,000 prints and slides assembled by Roger Freeman who was the approved historian of the 8th Air Force Historical Society for many years and the National Museum of the Mighty Eighth Air Force named their research center after him as a sign of the great contribution he made to ensuring that this chapter of Anglo-American history is not forgotten.
Roger Freeman is also know for the many books he wrote about Bomb Groups, airbases etc. To name a few of his books: “B-17 Fortress at War”, “The Mighty Eighth in Color”, “Mustang at War”, “The Mighty Eighth War Diary”, “56th Fighter Group”, “Zemke’s Wolf Pack” etc.
The Imperial War Museum has a great and growing website: http://www.americanairmuseum.com/. The great thing about this website is that you can help build the database by adding information about planes, people, missions, units etc. Please don’t forget to share this information with the 457th Bomb Group Association too!
Check out these great photos. By clicking on the photo you will get a bigger image and more information.
