SUBJECT: Unit Histories.
To: Group Historical Officer, AAF Station 110, APO 557, U.S. Army.
1. In compliance with Ltr, files and subject as above, Hq AAF Station 110, APO 557, dtd 28 March 1945, the following report is submitted:
a. Duties of Military Police:-
(1) Interior Guard duty – Within the past two (2) years, an average of seven (7) sentry posts have been maintained on a twenty-four (24) hour basis, with a doule sentry on the main entrance of the base, necessary duet o the amount of traffic, and checking for identification and passes of all personnel.
(2) Registering and recovery of Government and privately owned bicycles.
(3) Registering and issuing of passes to all civilians working and visiting the base.
(4) Guarding and working of Prisoners; policing the base; hauling trash.
(5) Furnishing runway guards of five (5) man, for take-offs and return of missions.
(6) Furnishing guards, for briefing and interrogation of all missions.
(7) Patrolling nearby towns and roads each night until midnight, or until all soldiers are out of town.
(8) Guarding all crashed aircraft in assigned area.
(9) Guards furnished for Aero-Club dances each Saturday Night.
(10) Alert Detachment (Minimum of thirty (30) men are avaiable at all times.
(11) Guard of Honor, and Orderlies for “High” Officials are provided when required.
(12) Traffic control for speeding, parking and misuse of Government transportation.
(13) Registration and issuing of permits for cameras.
(14) Investigation of all traffic accidents.
(15) Many small miscellaneous details, that assist in the welfare and discipline of the command, are performed; ie. removal of undesirable women from vicinity of the base; protection of adjoining civilian property and land, by not allowing trespassing or shooting,; administration of Company (1st echelon of vehicles, supply, etc)
b. Special Problems.
(1) Control of bicycles has been the hardest problem to solve. Checks have been made on roads, to check wether or not the bicyle belonged tot he individual ridding same. In the respect, each individual should have with him a card from the Office, authorizing hi mto ride the respective bicycle, This method has helped considerably.
(2) For a few months after our arrival in the Theater, a percentage of gunners had the idea, that the Military Police were after them, only. WHen they were approached for minor violations, and after having the regulation explained tot hem, and told the duties of the Military Police, the problem was solved to a great extent.

c. Training ot he Unit:
(1) Three (3) hours each day is utilized for trianing and athletics, for all personnel. Each soldier receives this training every other day:
a. Military Courtesy
b. Correction of duties observed, that have been improperly performed.
c. Close Order Drill.
d. Rifle Drill.
e. Alert Detachment Training.
f. Duties of Town Patrol.
g. Behavior of Military Police.
h. Uniform, wearing of.
i. Cleaning of Mess Equipment.
j. Firing of Individual and auxiliary weapons.
d. No unusual duties have been performed by this unit.

HISTORY OF 1061st MP CO (Avn) FOR MONTH OF NOVEMBER 1942
1. Company activated at Robins Fiels, Warner Robins, Georgia, 1st, with a cadre of eight (8) EM and one hundred (100) recruits. (Roster of initial men files with History records).
2. Captain Eberhardt was on SD with Company.
3. 2nd Lts. Prather and McAuley assigned, 10th.
4. 2nd Lts. McAuley relieved from assigned, 14th.
5. 1st Lt. Whisant and 1st Lt. Whitehead assigned and joined, 16th.
6. 1st Lt. Whisnant assum,ed command, 16th.
7. 1st Lt. Willard assugbed and joined, 17th. S/Sgt. Herr appointed First Segeant, 17th.
8. The month was utilized by getting settled in quarters and messing. Training of recruits was carried on daily. Ninety (90) percent of the men in Company were natives of North Carolina.
HISTORY OF 1061st MP CO (Avn) FOR MONTH OF DECEMBER 1942
1. The Company established own mess. 1062nd MP Co (Avn) was attached for rations.
2. 2nd Lt. Willard was transferred to 1064th MP Co (Avn), 3rd.
3. Training of Company (basic training of soldier) was carried on ten (10) hours per day. A number of men were transferred out, duet o unfitness for foreign service. Men were assigned to replacet hem. A number of men were promoted to NCOs this month. Christmas dinner was given to all personnel’s wives and girl friends.
HISTORY OF 1061st MP CO (Avn) FOR MONTH OF JANUARY 1943
1. 1st Lt. Whitehead transferred, 5th.
2. 2nd Lt. Mulkey assigned and joined, 11th. 2nd Lt. Beazley assigned and joined, 23rd.
3. Company alerted for overseas, 25th.
4. Training of personnel in field and Military Police duties, carried on, involving night problems, hikes, etc. Company was beginning to settle down in good shape. Most of undesirable were transferred out. Morale was very good, training included athletics.
HISTORY OF 1061st MP CO (Avn) FOR MONTH OF FEBRUARY 1943
1. Lts. Beazley and Mulkey relieved from assigned, 10th.
2. Lts. Willard and Pachter assigned and joined, 10th.
3. Company transferred from Robins Field, Ga.; also equipping men and preparing for foreign service. Inspections were held regularly and company was shaping up nicely, physically.

1. Company was atteche to 1062nd MP Co (avn) for rations.
2. Training at this time was mostly field work, night marches and bivouacs.
3. Men were in first class condition.
HISTORY OF 1061st MP CO (Avn) FOR MONTH OF APRIL 1943
1. Training continued.
2. Packing and crating of equipment for overseas being completed.
3. Company was ready and anziously awaiting our moving date.
4. Lt. Prather was transferred, 2nd.
5. Lt. Bigelow was assigned and joined, 3rd.
6. Lt. Bigelow was sent to POE to prepare supplies for shipment, 15th.
7. At 1200 hours, 22 April 1943, Company entrained for POE, arrived at Camp Shanks, N.Y. at 1525 hours, 23rd.
8. Remainder of month was utilized in getting shots, processing etc.
HISTORY OF 1061st MP CO (Avn) FOR MONTH OF MAY 1943
1. By the first of this month, all Officers and Enlisted Men had applied for $10.000 Insurance. The only organization to go thru the POE with this record.
2. Left Camp Shanks at 0845 hours for POE by train; arrived and embarked on the Queen Elizabeth at 1045 hours, 4th. Sailed at 0700 hours, 5th.
3. On baord the boat, the Company did Military Police duty. 17,000 troops were on board. Military Police duty on the boat kept the men busy.
4. Arrived at Firth of Clyde, Scotland, at 1030 hours, 11th. Remained on board until 1030 hours, 12th. Was ferried to station where Company was entrained for station. Arrived at Station 110, Polebrook, England, at 2300 hours.
5. 12th to 15th was utilized in getting located and settled.
6. On the 16th, the Company was assigned Military Police and Interior Guard duties of the Station. The remainder of the month was not too smooth because of men never having any experience.
7. On the 15th, 2 Officers, Lts Willard and Pachter, with fifty (50) Enlisted Men were ordered on DS to Station 106, Grafton Underwood, and assigned the duties of Military Police and Interior Guard duty.

1. Company remained divided, Det “A” at Station 106.
2. Company began to fit into their job excellently. Many compliments were made of their appearance, discipline and courtesy.
3. Company at Station 110 turned out a number of “Guard of Honor” for high Officials.

1. Company remained divided until the 21st, when Det “A” returned to Station 110.
2. 2nd Lt. Willard promoted to 1st Lt., 16th.
3. 1st Lt. Whisnant, Commanding Officer, promoted to Captain, 20th.
4. With the Company together, made the duties much easier and more effecient. Men were on duty 24 hours and off 24 hours. DUring the 24 hours off, training and athletics were carried on. Morale of the Company was very high.
5. Pvt. Laws was found asleep on post at Bombsite room.

1. Company was making a good record as Military Police.
2. Training was carried on during off hours.
3. S/Sgt. Lecrone, instructor for Company since it’s activation was reduced to Private for misconduct.
HISTORY OF 1061st MP CO (Avn) FOR MONTH OF SEPTEMBER 1943
1. 1st Lt. Willard was injured riding motorcycle. Was in hospital from 24 August to 15 September 1943.
2. 2nd Lt. Bigelow was promoted to 1st Lt., 4th.
3. Men were given seven day furloughs during September & October.
4. Usual Base duties were carried on fort he month.

1. Eight (8) EM were transferred to 985th MP Co (Avn) for town duty, 15th.
2. Lt. Willard was transferred to 982nd MP Co (Avn), 17th.
3. Company training of small arms, close order dril land athletics for men off duty.
4. Usual duties; Military Police, Interior Guard and Town Patrol of Oundle, Elton, Warmington, Polebrook and Lutton.

HISTORY OF 1061st MP CO (Avn) FOR MONTH OF DECEMBER 1943
1. 2nd Lt. Pachter promoted to 1st Lt., 1st.
2. Company carried on usual base duties.
3. Ending the year 1943, the Company has established a good record. Only one man was tried fro sleeping on post.
4. Many aircraft accidents were prevented on runways and perimeter tracks by Military Police being on duty and alert.
5. Men on aircraft accidents helped to extricate personnel from planes, prevented sight-seeing personnel from being injured or hampering the work of crash crews and Medical personnel.

1. Strength of Comapny – 4 Officers and 84 Enlisted men.
2. Training of men on Pistol and Rifle during their off hours.
3. 1st Lt. Kelliher assigned and joined, 11th.
4. 16 Enlisted Mes assigned and joined, 11th.
5. 2 Officers and 50 Enlisted Men transferred as Det “A” to AAF Station 130.
6. 5 Enlisted Men attached to Company to aid in Interior Guard Duty.

1. Strength – 4 Officers and 100 Enlisted men. Det “A” at AAF Station 130.
2. Nine (9) EM transferred from Det “A” to Company at Station 110, 7th.
3. Sgt. Veazie transferred to Det “A”; Sgt. Murray replacing him at Station 110, 28th.
4. Company kept busy, with the shortage of men, had to settle down to new scedule. Usual duties; Military Police, Interior Guard, Briefing room, Runway guards, crashed aircraft etc.
HISTORY OF 1061st MP CO (Avn) FOR MONTH OF MARCH 1944
1. Strength – 4 Officers and 113 EM. Det “A” at AAF Station 130.
2. Company carried on training in small arms during off hours.
3. 15 EM transferred to Det “A”, 9th.
4. 6 EM assigned and joined Company from 985th MP Co (Avn), 9th.
5. Lt. Pachter transferred to 1142nd MP Co (Avn), 14th.
6. 4 EM assigned and joined Company, 15th.
7. Lt. Triplit assigned and joined Company, 20th.
8. 6 EM assigned and joined Company. (New arrivals from States).
9. Usual duties of Interior Guard, Military Police, Briefing room, Runways, crashed aircraft etc.

1. Strength – 4 Officers and 108 EM. Det “A” at AAF Station 130.
2. Usual duties of Interior Guard, Military Police, Traffic, Runways, Briefing Guards and Town Patrols.
HISTORY OF 1061st MP CO (Avn) FOR MONTH OF MAY 1944
1. Strength of Company – 4 Officers and 105 EM, 13 EM attached.
2. 2 Officers and 50 EM of Company comprise Det “A” stationed at AAF Station 130.
3. Personnel given some training off-hours. All men of this Station fired twenty (20) rounds eah, with M1 rifle and carbine.
4. Sgt. Perez, Benjamin J. attended RAF Anti-Gas School from 3rd to 17th.
5. Both Detechments kept very busy with the Interior Guard, Military Police duty, Briefing room and runway guards, also crashed aircraft guarding.
HISTORY OF 1061st MP CO (Avn) FOR MONTH OF JUNE 1944
1. Military Police duties – 2 Officers, 54 EM at AAF Sta 110.
2 Officers, 50 EM at AAF Sta 130.
2. Lt. Triplit detailed as Commanding Officer of Alert Detachment.
3. Orders from Hq ETOUSA that all Garrison Prisoners will be confined at Station Guardhouse.
4. Performance of personnel during month – Eexcellent.
5. Due to invasion, men worked over-hours, to take care of continious missions.
HISTORY OF 1061st MP CO (Avn) FOR MONTH OF JULY 1944
1. Company stood “Guard of Honor” for Major General Hayes, English Army, 3rd.
2. Furnished escort and “Guard of Honor” for Secretary of War Stimson upon his visit tot he base, 19th.
3. Detachment at AAF Station 110 was allotted $1,544.50 on their share to buy War Bonds. Total amount collected $2,670.00, going over the top by a large sum. The collection and cooperation of these 54 men was superior.
HISTORY OF 1061st MP CO (Avn) FOR MONTH OF AUGUST 1944
1. Company almost doubled their quota in the 8 Air Force Bond Drive, which required $27.00 per man in the entire Air Force.
2. Captain Whisnant awarded the Bronze Star, 31st.
3. S/Sgt. Galat returned tot he States on rotation plan, 31st.
4. Lt. Kelliher transferred from company to duty in France, 31st.
HISTORY OF 1061st MP CO (Avn) FOR MONTH OF SEPTEMBER 1944
1. Company and Detachment “A”, carried on Military Police and Guard duty. Lt. Triplit to Det “A” to relieve Lt. Bigelow, while on 7 day leave.
2. Seven (7) day furloughs were started fot this men.
3. Delinquent reports fort he Base and adjoining towns were moderate fort he month.
HISTORY OF 1061st MP CO (Avn) FOR MONTH OF OCTOBER 1944
1. Company and Det “A” carried on Military Police and Guard duty. 24th to 25th, patrols were sent out to adjoining towns to check for AWOL men during restriction. AWOL in civilian clothes and two (2) men in uniform were apprehended.
2. Town patrols of Oundle, Warmington and Elton reported the bahavior and dress of the men very good.
3. Delinquent reports on the Base and vicinity fort he month very moderate.
4. Lt. Triplit to Det “A” and Lt. Bigelow back to Station 110, 15th.

1. Company less Detachment “A”, Usual MP and Interior guard duties.
2. Apprehended 3 AWOL’s; 2 from RCD #158, 1 from AAF Station 110.
3. Delinquencies for station and surrounding towns were very good.

1. Company less Det. “A”, usual Military Police and Interior guard duty.
2. Company disbanded 15 April 1945, officers and enlisted men transferred tot he Air Corps. Capt. Whisnant, Lt. Bigelow and 50 enlisted men transferred to 430th Air Service Group. Lt. Triplit, Lt. Furgeson and 50 enlisted men transferred to 4528th Air Service Group.
