Original Item: One-of-a-kind. This is an incredible A2 leather flight jacket issued to Captain Lentz Mcsherry “Mac” Lackey (ASN O-817465) of Statesville, North Carolina. Cpt. Lackey was a Pilot and flew the Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress “JOYCE” 43-37733 and was assigned to the 8th Air Force, 457th Bombardment Group, 749th Bomb Squadron.

This is fantastic Russet brown leather Type A-2 flight jacket from World War II in size 44. Manufacturer tag from Star Sportswear of Lynn, Mass.

The jacket itself features stunning and vibrant hand-painted insignia including:
– Hand Painted full color 749th Bomb Squadron insignia which features a red devil dropping bombs.

– Hand Painted full color 457th Bombardment Group “FAIT ACCOMPLIE” insignia.

– Hand Painted Silver Pilots Wings.

– Hand Painted DUO MAC in silver with red outline across the front chest.

– Hand Painted full color 8th Air Force insignia on left shoulder.

– Hand Painted Silver Captains Bars on the epaulets which one can see were originally single Lieutenant bars.

– Hand Painted full color B-17 Flying Fortress over blue sky background on the reverse under which it reads JOYCE.

– Hand Painted silver and read bombs surrounding the plane. Each bomb represents a successful mission. Some bombs have names impressed into them such as Berlin,

Laon, Munich, Dieppe, Leipzig, etc…

The jacket is in fine, original condition, with functional CROWN zipper to front, two front pouch pockets, and replacement period correct knitted waist with cuffs. The lining is original.
