TARGET: SYNTHETIC OIL REFINERIES
HARBURG, GERMANY
24 FEBRUARY, 1945
The Group comprised the 94th B Combat Wing with Major Havey as Air Commander. The synthetic oil refineries at Harburg were the targets. The route over England was flown approximately as briefed. The Group assembled in Wing formation without difficulty and followed in trail. The Group was in proper position in Division column and flew the Division assembly line as briefed.
The Division Leader overshot the next Control Point, the Group following in trail in order to remain in Division column. The 457th was slightly left of course from that point until the IP. The IF was crossed on course. Cloud coverage was ten tenths and it was necessary to bomb by means of PFF equipment. Bombing was done in Group formation, with the lead squadron performing the instrument sighting. Bombs were dropped from 26,500 feet.
Bomb results were unobserved due to ten-tenths cloud coverage.
Flak was moderate but inaccurate and no craft sustained damage.
