This video presents films of the 457th Bomb Group. These films were taken by members of the photo intelligence unit attached to the 457th, commanded by Lt. Duane L. Zemper. The films were brought home with him when he returned after the war. They have been digitized and edited by his son, Eric D. Zemper, PhD.
Because these films were taken by Lt. Zemper and the men in his photo section, around the base and during bombing missions, it should not be surprising that the men of the photo section show up often. Most members of the photo section were indentifiable by the ditor with the help of his father before he died in July 2016 at the age of 96. Unfortunately, few of the members of the air crews and ground crews were able to be identified. Since these films were 70 years old when digitized, there were many problems with oxidizing and staining that reduced the quality of many of the images.
Enjoy these amazing images and see for the first time in over 70 years how life was at Glatton in moving images.
We would like to thank the Zemper family for using the film! Click on image to start to film.
